In Ancient Roman Mythology, the Goddess Juno was married to Jupiter, King of the Gods, and was the patronness of marriage and family.
One of her associated symbols was the peacock, and the month of June is named after her.
According to the beliefs of the day, to marry under her protection was to ensure lasting marital happiness and peace.
